Determining the Value of Autographed Sports Memorabilia
by admin on Mar.03, 2011, under Sports Memorabilia
Suppose you have found the perfect sports memorabilia to gift someone special, and are about to buy it. How do you assess whether the seller is asking for the right price? How do you negotiate? How do you ensure a fair deal? The key to success here is getting all essential details before you make a purchase.
How much you need to spend on buying a certain autographed item depends on various factors, which are as follows:
Whose autograph does the item have? A baseball memorabilia signed by Babe Ruth or Ted Williams would be very valuable – because of the sheer greatness associated with the players themselves. Objects autographed by long gone players belonging to the hall of fame would have more value than others would.
What is the collectible? Game used objects, like bats, balls, jerseys, hats, gloves, etc, are the highest in terms of price. Next are the special items, like stadium seats, dirt collages, etc, associated with the game. Objects like photo-frames, coffee mugs, etc come in last in terms of value.
Does it come with a certificate of authenticity? This is an essential when you are investing hundreds of dollars in a single object. If the online store does not provide this, opt for another store. Without proper certification, you may as well be walking into a trap and buying a fake.
Is there any association with any major win? Suppose you are buying autographed hockey pucks used by NY Rangers in a major game. You would have to pay much more than what any other puck would cost just because of the association with the game. Do not forget to get the adequate documents establishing their originality.
What is the condition of the item? The better the condition of the object, the more you have to pay for it. Smudges, stains, fading and such other damages may be diminishing the value of the item. The only exception to this is when the object is a game used memorabilia.
Finding a good online store is the first step when you are trying to purchase authentic sports memorabilia at the right price.
